Happy Valentines Day–Carrying on a Tradition of Zero Spending
Happy Valentines day to you. I say that, not because I want you to run out and buy me chocolate and gifts, but rather just to be nice. At our house, we have never embraced Valentines Day as a day to spend lots of money to try to prove our love to each other. We sit firmly in the "Reject consumerism on pretend holidays” camp.
Which States Do Not Allow Deficiency Judgements?
These days it seems like every other house on the block is headed towards foreclosure in some areas of the country. We’ve seen a few around our neighborhood but overall it’s been relatively light compared to some parts of the country. When people walk away from a home and the bank forecloses, there is often a gap between what the bank sells the house for
Banks Suing For Remaining Mortgage Balance on Foreclosed Homes
As we’ve been living through the foreclosure mess of the last few years, I haven’t heard all that much about the banks going after homeowners for remaining balances on a mortgage once the foreclosure and sale of the property has taken place. This appears to be on the incline and there is a whole new secondary market for the debt. This is only happening in
How To Stop Being Anxious About Money
I’d like to say that this is a post about getting rid of your anxieties with money. The reality is that this post is more about exploring my own anxieties with money, why I have them and how I combat them. I have thought about and worried about money since the 7th grade. I grew up in a very blue collar home with parents who
I was Hacked
Well, I can honestly tell you that being completely and utterly hacked for the first time sucks! I’ve lost a ton of data and am still working at how to retrieve the posts. I’m hoping to figure out how to export them out of my MySQL database and then import them to this new blog instance but we’ll see how it goes. Stay tuned for
Trouble with the blog
Sorry for the lack of updates. I’m having some trouble with the WordPress admin functions (pages are completely blank so I can’t do anything). I’ve been locked out for awhile and am still trying to fix it. I just found that I am able to access the admin functions via the WordPress mobile app so was able to put up this short post.
Happy New Year – 2011
Just a quick note to say Happy New Year to everyone. 2010 was an okay year for us at our house and I hope 2011 will be full of opportunity, excitement and happiness. I’m not a big fan of New Years resolutions per se but I am looking at a couple of goals for 2011. First and foremost is a desire to get healthy. I
Somebody Should Have Pimped His Bank Accounts
Xzibit (Alvin Joiner) from the show “Pimp My Ride” owes upwards of $1M in taxes and has a negative net worth of about $660K. Apparently he has declared bankruptcy twice since 2009. Really? You can do that? It sure looks like Xzibit probably should have made a few different decisions. A $2200+ car payment? Really? http://jalopnik.com/5720753/xzibit-pimp-my-ride-made-me-broke
Adding Healthcare Deductibles to Our Budget
Now that all the paperwork for healthcare open enrollment is starting to show up, my wife and I have had to sit down and talk about the various options we have between our two companies and how we should change our plans. The reality is that it’s looking like we won’t be changing anything for 2011. That doesn’t mean that things aren’t changing. My company
