If you are young like me, you’ve probably stopped and wondered whether the entitlement programs of today will be here tomorrow when you need it. I’ve often thought about what my reality will look like in the future. I’m worried that the programs that my parents have been able to use won’t be around for me. Scott Burns has a great post about the state of the social entitelment programs. Any way you slice it, it’s ugly. He cites a couple experts in the field and they don’t add any sugar to the story.
It’s really quite amazing how different the landscape is today than it was 30 years ago. Pensions are no longer the norm. When you tell someone you have a pension, they give you one of two looks. 1. They have a bewildered facial expression that clearly says, “Pension? What’s that?”, or 2. They develop a look of envy that tells you that you are truly a lucky individual. (until, of course, your company cancels it).
