I’ve noticed a recurring pattern over the last few years of my life. When I’m happy I do well in almost every area of my life – I’m a better parent, better companion, more passionate about working, and also much better with money. When I’m stressed or feeling depressed it all flies out the window.
I think this is one big piece of the picture we forget when thinking about personal finance.
Our financial picture often reflects how we feel on the inside even though we know we may need to do differently.
If you want to do well you need to maintain a level of happiness and personal development. These are the things that may help the most.
# 1 – Surround Yourself with the People You Love
I never notice how much of a hit my mood takes when I don’t see some of my extended family for a while. Then after visiting with them I have this renewed sense of energy and am happy and productive.
It’s these times where I realize just how important it is for me to keep a steady flow of communication with friends and family.
# 2 – Always Be Working Toward Something
If I am not actively working toward something I tend to fall into a big slump. It affects every single area of my life.
It’s funny how that works.
When you’re working toward a goal and making daily progress that often overflows into other areas of your life. This is why it’s so important to always have strong goals. As human beings we need to feel like we’re making progress toward something – even if it seems like a very simple thing.
# 3 – Cut the Negative Out of Your Life
Cut the negativity out of your life. If you find yourself complaining often about certain things stop the complaining and do something about it.
Complaining is a waste of your energy. And remember, your attitude often affects your outcome.
# 4 – Stop Procrastinating
Procrastination creates more procrastination. (Ask me how I know.) If you know what you need to do, just do it. Don’t even give yourself the time to think about it.
If you continue procrastinating you’ll end your days stressed out and wake up the next day stressed out by everything that’s still on your to-do list. Do what you need to do, when you need to do it, and end procrastination.
# 5 – Keep Going
When you fall off track don’t give up. Keep on working to create the life that you want to be living and enjoy where you’re at along the way.
Keeping a good attitude will positively impact your life in many ways.
