The holidays are here and many people are gearing up to host family and friends for delicious meals. One of my favorite parts of the holidays is enjoying food at a festive table surrounded by loved ones. We share stories and recipes. It’s always a good time. If you’re like my wife, you want something to really make your spread exude Christmas joy. So, here’s a look at eight holiday dinnerware sets she’s had her eye on this year that will bring your table to the next level.
Spode Christmas Tree 12-Piece Set
Spode is well known for its dinnerware. It is an English pottery and homewares brand known for its quality materials and iconic designs. The company has a classic Christmas Tree dinnerware print. Each piece features a traditional Christmas tree in the center with a piece of mistletoe off to the right. The 12-piece set comes with four dinner plates, four dessert plates, and four mugs. It’s a bit pricey at $189.00 for the 12-piece set. However, it is something you can collect over the years. There are also extra pieces, including bowls, buffet table items (like serving trays and deviled egg plates), a napkin holder, placemats, a wine stopper, a tea kettle, tea cups, wine glasses, a gravy boat, and more.
On Spode’s website, people talk about the long-standing tradition of having this set on the table at Christmas time. “I grew up with our Christmas dining table adorned with this whimsical pattern during the Christmas holiday,” one reviewer wrote. “My mother gifted me my own collection as I grew my family and I have now gifted the same collection to my son/wife and daughter/husband as they carry the tradition forward.”
Lenox 893172 Holiday 12-Piece Plate and Bowl Set
You’ll see a few Lenox sets on this list. Lenox is another company with a rich history. It was founded in 1889 and has become a beloved brand for dinnerware and serveware. What sets it apart from some other fine china makers is that Lenox is an American brand. Unsurprisingly, they’ve got some really spectacular holiday dinnerware sets. The 893172 print is a classic. It is more understated than those previously listed. Each piece has gold trim and has holly leaves around the border. The 12-piece set comes with four dinner plates, four dessert plates, and four bowls. Right now, Amazon is having a great deal on this set for only $120. Normally, it runs more than $250. You can also add to your set over time. Lenox has wine glasses that match, a two-tier serving plate, and other items.
One person reviewed the Lenox set on their website and said, “I have set my Christmas table with these gorgeous dishes every Christmas for over 25 years. My family loves to gather round the family table and enjoy the beautiful place settings.”
Sur La Table Nutcracker 12-Piece Dinnerware Set
Sur La Table has become well-known for having posh items for your kitchen and table. The seasonal pieces are no exception. They have a 12-piece Nutcracker holiday dinnerware set that is definitely worth a mention. All of the pieces in this set have a festive Nutcracker on them and will certainly bring something special to your table. That said, the specifications on this one are a little strange. You’ll get 12 pieces, including four dinner plates, four salad plates, and four soup plates. Soup plates seem strange, but apparently, it’s a thing. You can get this set for about $200 right now.
Lenox 895051 Merry Grinchmas 12-Piece Dinnerware Set
This one has been on my wife’s Amazon wish list for a while. Who doesn’t love the Grinch? This holiday dinnerware set brings the fun of the Christmas story right to the table. The plates feature the animated Grinch and his dog, Max, alongside a Christmas tree. Dessert plates show Cindy Lou Who and Max and each of the bowls is decorated with a festive banner saying “Merry Merry.” Lenox has an entire “Grinchmas” set you can shop from to match the festive dinnerware as well. Other items in the set include salt and pepper shakers, figurines, a snow globe, ornaments and an ornament tree, various mugs, serving dishes, and a cookie jar. For the 12-piece dinner set, you’ll pay around $200 right now ($189.99 on Amazon). Lenox has it regularly priced at $400.
Again, Lenox gets praise from buyers. One person wrote about this set saying, “This Grinch dinnerware is absolutely beautiful! The details are amazing and the Lennox quality is outstanding. It’s a true heirloom that will be cherished for generations.”
Christmas Toile 16-Piece Dinnerware Set
Another item on the wife’s Amazon wish list is this Christmas Toile 16-Piece Dinnerware Set. This set comes with four dinner plates, four dessert plates, four bowls, and four mugs. The set shows a picturesque snow scene on each piece, with a red house covered in powdery snow and a cobblestone bridge. Everything is framed by pine branches, which really rounds out the entire plate. These are much more affordable at $53.99 on sale right now. Normally, the set runs $70. A 16-piece set will serve four, so you might want to plan to buy two sets if you’re entertaining a bigger crowd.
Sur La Table Snowy Village 12-Piece Dinnerware Set
Sur La Table has some of the more affordable dinnerware sets on this list. Its 12-piece Snowy Village set is nice looking. It features four dinner plates, four salad plates, and four soup plates. The soup and salad plates have a cute little Santa Claus on them with a reindeer. The dinner plates have a Christmas tree in the center. Each one has a festive garland border. Of course, the set is on sale right now for about $140.
So far, it has one review on Sur La Table’s website, raving about it being dishwasher safe. They wrote, “I love this set. It is so adorable. I ordered it Christmas night after washing my grandmother’s China for hours. I can use that for other holidays. During such a busy time of year I want to sleep and be with my family. I believe fun and dishwasher safe is the direction to go.”
Lenox Winter Greetings 12-Piece Set
Lenox has another winner with its “Winter Greetings” set. The design includes cardinals and other birds, holly branches, and red ribbons. It is festive without being over the top. The 12-piece set includes four dinner plates, four salad or dessert plates, and four mugs. Lenox has the set marked down from $470 to $235 right now. You can snag it on Amazon for even less at $190 (for now). Of course, there is also an entire Lenox collection that goes along with this holiday dinnerware set. The collection features bowls, teacups and saucers, serving platters, salt and pepper shakers, a sugar and creamer set, a trivet, and a napkin holder.
Buyers have praised this set for its versatility through the winter months. One reviewer wrote, “I specifically purchased this pattern for Christmas; however, its beautiful design allows me to use it throughout the months of December, January, and February. It is most certainly a winter pattern and NOT just for Christmas. I absolutely love the design and quality. Nothing is better than Lenox on my table.”
Pottery Barn 12 Days of Christmas 48-Piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set
Pottery Barn has some great finds for holiday dinnerware too. This 48-piece set includes service for 12. You’ll get 12 dinner plates, dessert plates, bowls, and mugs. What’s special about this set is that each piece in the set is a bit different. While each piece is surrounded by holly branches and has different festive notes, the dessert plates have different birds on each plate. The mugs also feature something different on each one. Overall, it’s an attractive set, but you’ll definitely pay for it. It’s only sale for $522 right now. It usually runs around $750. You also won’t be able to get it anywhere but Pottery Barn (unless you’re lucky enough to find it used).
If you are looking for festive holiday dinnerware to add a special touch to your table this season, you really can’t go wrong with any of these sets. There’s something here to fit every budget and every style. Which one is your favorite?
