It’s been a couple weeks since we killed cable and we have absolutely NO regrets. Just as we suspected, we haven’t missed it a bit. We still find plenty of things to watch on TV and we’re saving over $50 per month. Maybe I should rephrase the whole “killing cable†thing. We didn’t actually kill it completely. We kept just the local channels for $15 per month. By doing this, we were able to keep our discount on our high speed Internet and it actually came out to be cheaper than just canceling cable altogether because of the significant Internet discount we got. Anyway, we only have 5 channels to choose from but we also have Netflix streaming through the Xbox.
Initially we were watching a lot of stuff through Netflix. We are still watching a fair amount through Netflix but we are actually finding plenty to watch on just the 5 network channels by using our old Tivo. We spent 30 minutes reprogramming the Tivo last week and we have a ton of stuff being recorded now. I don’t anticipate we’ll ever run out of things to watch since we only watch about an hour of TV each night.
So, like I said earlier, we have no regrets and we are thrilled to be saving the extra money every month! Apparently we aren’t alone. Check out this article about 1 in 8 households being expected to cancel cable in the next year.

Good for you! Our cable bills is only $12.50 but we’ll raise it to HD during football season. We rarely watch TV except sports and we’d rather Netflix TV shows anyway.

It’s nice to hear about more and more people without the cable bill. We left our cable disconnected when we moved to a new home just about 3 years ago, and life is so much better without 100 channels of waste.

Are you paying for the Tivo service, or did your reprogramming make it free somehow?

Hi Mike,
A long time ago I called Tivo and got them to lower our price to $6.95 for life. So it’s not free, but it’s pretty cheap!!
