However, if you pray for guidance and wisdom over your finances, that is the kind of prayer that really works. Scripture says it, and I’ve seen it in my own life.
How exactly? Take a look at these four elements of a healthy prayer life and see how they apply to you.
Money Prayer for Guidance
When things get really hard and you have to make some tough decisions about your finances, a money prayer for guidance to make the right decision might be just the thing you need.
For example, if you experience:
- Job loss
- Unexpected medical bills
- Relentless calls from debt collectors
- Car problems
- Dwindling savings
- Cutbacks on benefits at work
- Increased expenses
- Divorce
Even making difficult decisions on what food to buy when money is tight can bring stress.
Matthew 6:8 says, “For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” He is loving and works in His own timing. He also knows exactly how this is all going to end, so lean into His guidance for your life.
Money Prayer for Wisdom
Ecclesiastes 7:12 says, “Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it.”
Pray for wisdom in handling your finances. This can come in various different forms such as a financial class you take, a book you read about finances, a discussion with your financial planner, etc. Sometimes it’s just admitting when you have a problem, large or small.
Some of my biggest breakthroughs began with acknowledging a weakness (i.e. Using my credit card or debit card recklessly).
Money Prayer to Acknowledge the Life Lessons Being Taught
So, remember how I was just saying how I learn from my weakest moments? Sometimes we can get ourselves into a pretty big mess and are not sure how we are going to get out of it.
There are times when God will allow us to “sit’ in our mess for awhile. When this happens, He is trying to teach us something. Perhaps it’s not to get into debt or loan money that ruins a relationship or make a purchase beyond our means. But no matter what, God will never forsake us.
Hebrews 13:5 says, “For He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.” There have been many stories where people are at their breaking point and then exactly what they need comes through. That’s God.
Money Prayer for the Strength to Trust
Trust can be a hard thing. It doesn’t matter if it’s a co-worker who has hurt us or a relationship that is broken.
Having the ability to trust in something you can’t see can be even harder. It is understandable why so many people struggle with this. Sometimes you just have to let things go and pray for the ability to trust.
Psalm 9: 10 says, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
So, is there a money prayer that really works?
Here is what I believe. You can take it or leave it.
God is big. Like, really big. He’s bigger than that insurmountable challenge casting a shadow over your life right now. He knows every detail of your struggle better than anyone else.
But, God is also holy, which best translates in Greek as “other.” We don’t always understand His reasons for answering prayers with happy news and miracles, and why some days He seems so distant.
So, to answer the question, “Is there a money prayer that really works?” my answer is no, there isn’t a formulaic chant you can recite to ensure your financial deliverance. BUT, the One who hears you can do anything. If we pray for guidance, wisdom, and the strength to trust, God will reveal His wonders in our lives – even if they’re in His timing, not ours.
Prayer is not like a slot machine; it is not a gamble. It is a solid, loving, permanent connection with God. A God who loves us more than we will ever know, and his amazing son, Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf. With them on our side, we cannot lose.
