Social distancing has changed the way we live. We rarely leave our houses because we’re not supposed to. When we do it’s a quick in-and-out. And then we spend valuable time cleaning everything off when we get it home.
But grocery delivery changed everything for me.
I don’t want to sound too overdramatic, but it really changes the game when it comes to lifestyle. It makes it easier for me to shop and means that I don’t have to leave my house when it’s so touch-and-go out there.
What is Grocery Delivery?
Grocery delivery is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of running out to the store to shop, you pick items on your computer or in an app and pay for someone else to pick the items out and deliver them to you. In a word, it’s amazing. The future is here.
How Grocery Delivery Saves Money
Grocery delivery is fantastic. But not only does it save me from leaving my house and having to wait in long lines and comb the shelves myself, but it does also save me a ton of money.
You’re probably thinking that it costs more not less to have groceries delivered. But when I really work out everything, I actually save money having someone else deliver my groceries to me. Here’s how:
I only have to go once. I am notorious for writing down a list then failing to actually get everything on it. Then I end up taking multiple trips throughout the week just to make the meals I planned ahead with.
I can get everything on my list. Like I said before, I’m bad for not actually getting everything on the list. I know what I want but it takes me forever to find it and I always walk away without something that I needed.
I can review everything and make sure I don’t get too much. What’s worse than forgetting everything is buying the whole store. I’m also notorious for picking up EVERYTHING that looks good. But when I’m getting delivery I can review it to make sure I’m not picking out everything.
And not only does it save me money, but it saves me a TON of time. Seriously, a single delivery order can save me from two to six hours, depending on how many stories I have on my list.
How Much Does It Cost?
Grocery delivery costs vary depending on the service you use. I personally use Instacart which has deliveries as low as $3.99 plus the service fee which can be around $5. The delivery fee tends to go up the more items and stores you add to your list.
However, as a monthly member, you can pay one overall fee (I pay $10) and get free delivery and a reduced service fee. I pay around $2.50 per order all-in, regardless of whether I shop from one or four stores.
Should You Give it a Try?
There is no better time than right now to try out grocery delivery. I mean, do you even want to leave your house anyway? Make that list, throw it into the app and try your first ever grocery delivery.
