Over spring break my kids were home with me for the week. In all honestly it was so nice to have them back home and not have to deal with going back and forth to the school twice per day. And to my surprise we didn’t have any boredom crop up over the week.
We did so many activities and everyone stayed happy.
In honor of the upcoming summer break I had the girls help me come up with a list of their very favorite free and frugal activities for kids.
This list was created by five and seven year old children. (They picked the top five and the honorable mentions!)
Top Five Activities
Here were the five best frugal activities for kids.
Print Out Pages and Coloring Them – The number one favorite activity was printing out activity sheets and coloring pages and having a homeschool. We printed most of our pages from Education.com (which is a fantastic resource.)
Since I work from home having the girls do learning activities while I worked was a huge blessing and I am extremely glad this was the number one choice.
Reading Books – Next on the list was reading books. We’ve amassed a gigantic collection of kids’ books thanks to Facebook yard sales.
Nature Walk – Since we live in the middle of the woods having nature walks is something we do regularly and a great way to break up the day and get some exercise in for both parents and children. If you don’t have the liberty of stepping out of your back door and landing in the middle of the woods just take a walk up and down your street.
Riding Bikes – Finally, an activity the kids can do themselves! Riding bikes is a great way to keep the kids busy for an hour or more.
Cooking/Baking – While this one is done much less often in my house it still comes in at the top of the list.
Honorable Mentions
The above activities were my kids’ top picks but they also came up with many more ideas. Maybe one of these will appeal more to your children.
