An old salesman friend of mine once said, “If you can’t sell, drive like hell.”
Gas is pretty darned expensive. Not as bad as in the UK, but still, it’s no picnic. I find myself having to drive my car for work a lot, which really adds up. Luckily I get paid mileage when I do this. It actually works out pretty good. The mileage I get, helps cover most of the tank of gas, so I haven’t been hammered by the rising gas prices. As the gas prices have risen, so has the mileage rate that my company pays.
Now, I know that the mileage rate that my company pays, is to cover all the costs of driving the car, but since I have a less expensive car, that gets moderately good gas mileage, I’m in the money. Don’t get me wrong. I would never drive any more than I need to for my job, but when I do drive, it’s nice to know I’m getting compensated for the mileage. Luckily, since I work out of the house some times, our overall gas budget is pretty low. Thank goodness I don’t drive a full size Suburban and commute 50 miles each way. I still don’t see how those people can afford that.
